For CIP applications, ozone-enriched water is directly injected into a facility’s fluid distribution network and circulated for a set duration of time. Overall chemical and wastewater disposal costs are reduced or eliminated, and overall system deterioration is reduced when using ozone-enriched water rather than hot water or traditional anti-microbial chemicals.

The DEL Ozone AGW-1500G Mobile Recirculation Ozone Sanitation System and AGW-4015/4025 skid-mounted ozone systems can be easily connected to recirculating CIP systems with a total flow rate up to 35 GPM. They are registered with NSF, ensuring OSHA's safety compliance, and compliance to anti-microbial efficacy claims - AOAC Methods under the USEPA Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP) Disinfectant Technical Science Section (DIS/TSS). The system is also listed in the NSF International White Book™ (former USDA White Book) under non-food compounds for no-rinse surface sanitation.
CIP with ozone-enriched water has the potential of replacing the chemicals and hot water rinses typically used in CIP processes. Because ozone leaves no residual, it can replace common potable water rinses performed between and after cleaning and sanitation steps. Wear and tear on equipment is reduced and heat-related wait times are eliminated. Cold ozone-enriched water has advantages versus chemicals:
- Ozone is not stored - it is generated on-site as needed
- Ozone leaves no chemical or residual by-products to spoil product quality or corrode equipment
- Ozone management systems eliminate inhalation worries (OSHA)
- Microorganisms can't build up an ozone tolerance
- Ozone used properly cannot endanger the environment
- Ozone will decompose to oxygen before entering sensitive leech or settling ponds
The benefits of using cold ozone-enriched water are:
- Ozone can replace or reduce CIP disinfection methods such as chlorine or hot water
- Ozone disinfects more powerfully than other chemical disinfectants
- Ozone reduces chemical sanitizing costs
- Ozone improves uptime potential
- Ozone reduces overall water consumption
