
Control System
DEL Infinity Corona Discharge (CD) Ozone Generators are designed to high reliability and performance standards. CD units incorporate an inclusive computer controlled operating system with interlocked sensors and regulating devices. In addition to ensuring proper start-up/shut-down sequences and fault protection, keyed indicator LEDs provide an integral visual diagnostic tool. This system allows for customization/expansion to easily accommodate individual customer needs. High quality, low maintenance, dependable components, such as the oxygen concentrators and compressors packaged with each CD, add to DEL's performance as well.
Cold Cathode Electrodes
DEL Ozone's Infinity Series CD ozone generators utilize a cold cathode electrode design and a high voltage/low frequency power supply to create the necessary electrical charge. One electrode in this design is a stainless steel grounding tube and the other electrode is a hermetically sealed gas filled glass tube. When supplied with high voltage, the gas is ionized and forms a visible energy field inside the sealed tube. This plasma then acts as the charged electrode and the glass acts as a first dielectric, withstanding the applied high voltage and distributing the charge evenly along its length. The second dielectric is an air gap that becomes electrically charged when the high voltage is applied. This charged area is called the corona and is characterized by a bluish glow. As oxygen molecules pass through the corona, they are separated into single atoms of oxygen which then recombine creating a high percentage of ozone (usually 2-6% by weight). The actual concentration produced is then primarily dependent upon applied voltage level, as well as temperature, humidity, oxygen content, and volume flow rate of the feed gas flowing through the generator.
One of the primary advantages of cold cathode over other CD electrode designs is a more efficient energy transfer due to the lower electrical resistance of the ionized gas. Lower resistance means less power lost to heating, making less cooling necessary - only the grounding tube needs cooling. A second important factor in electrode efficiency is the natural internal convection of the ionized gas providing even heat distribution and eliminating hot spots. Lower and more consistent corona temperatures mean high efficiency since less ozone is lost through heat decomposition. Another benefit of cold cathode is that there is no need for individual fusing of electrodes. If an electrode fails, the inert gas escapes and the electrode automatically becomes an open circuit, protecting the power supply.
The DEL Infinity Series' modular generator design provides ease of maintenance and customization to various size/performance requirements. Modularity also allows for quick electrode replacements that do not require highly trained service personnel. The additional number of more complex electronic parts needed for frequency conversion and control in high frequency/low voltage systems increases cost and maintenance needs while reducing reliability. DEL CDs utilize standard line frequencies and require only a few, simple, user serviceable components. This feature increases the dependability and service life of the system.
Enclosure
The Infinity system enclosure is built to NEMA-3R specifications suitable for outdoor installation with fully filtered and gasketed openings. Door handles are padlockable and door safety switches are incorporated to prevent unauthorized or inadvertent access to system components.
Oxygen Concentrators
Self-contained oxygen concentrator units produce oxygen at greater than 85% purity and less than -60° C dew point. Concentrated oxygen feed-gas enables ozone generation at 2-6% (by weight) concentration at 80% lower flow rates than air-fed systems. This eliminates nitric acid build-up, requires smaller overall injection systems, and provides greater dissolution of ozone in water.
